Note:
This national park was formally called Kabalega National Park and was named Murchison Falls by Sir Samuel Baker in 1864 to honor Roderick Murchison’s role as president of the Royal Geographical Society, making it the oldest park in Uganda.
It is located towards the Northern region of Uganda about 250km from Kampala. The park covers an area of 3840sq kilometers hence being the largest park in Uganda.
The park bares the Mighty Murchison falls which are the most powerful waterfalls in the world- the Nile squeezes through an 8m wide gorge and plunges with a thunderous roar into the “Devil’s Cauldron” creating a trademark rainbow.
Murchison Falls National Park is also referred to as the big 5 which means Lions, Elephants, Buffaloes, Hippos and Giraffes among other mammals. The park is also endowed with over 500 Bird Species like the shoebill, white crested turaco among others, 51 reptiles and 51 amphibians.
Safari Itinerary
Day 1
📌You will be picked up by the driver at 6:00am
📌Set off from Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park will be at 6:30a.m
📌At 10:00a.m, you will have a stopover to get some snacks and breakfast if needed (owner’s cost)
📌At 11a.m, you will make a stop at Zziwa Rhino sanctuary where you expect to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, and the only white rhinos in Uganda. You’ll also get to see other animals like the Uganda kobs, bushbucks and waterbucks, plus over 300 bird species.
📌You will make a quick stop for lunch at 2:00p.m
📌You will arrive at the park at 4:00p.m
You will then drive through the Budongo forest, where you will encounter various parliaments of Baboons under the beautiful canopy of the Budongo Rain forests.
📌You will join the park from the southern bank, which is comprised of thickets and tall savannah which makes sighting of the game difficult.
📌At 5:00pm, you will make a stop over to engage in Zip lining for about 40minutes and then we shall proceed to the top of the falls for hiking
📌While at the Murchison Falls, you will enjoy the beautiful and aggressive roar and shower of the waters of the falls.
If you are lucky, you will, see the rainbow 🌈 forming across the water falls
📌You will then proceed to the lodge, through a minor evening game drive where you will sight some animals.
Arrival at the lodge will be at 8:00pm where you will have dinner and rest.
Day 2
📌You will have breakfast at 6:00am before setting off for the morning game drive.
📌During the game drive, you stand a chance to sight the lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes among others.
📌The game drive will take 3-4hours
After the game drive, you will head back to the lodge, to rest and refreshen up. lunch will be served at 12:00pm
📌At 1:00pm you will set off for the afternoon boat ride to the bottom of the falls where you will sight various reptiles like crocodiles, monitor lizards, birds like the king fisher, among others. The boat ride will take 2-3hours
📌At 5:00pm you will drive back to the hotel for resting and dinner
Day 3
📌You will have breakfast at 8:00am
📌 You will set off for Kampala at 10:00am
